Heat & Harvest (heatandharvest.com) is a trade publication owned and operated by Mark Aaron Harris and Matthew Blake Harris in Oxford, Mississippi. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Effective October 12, 2026

What we collect and why

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we collect your email address and your name, if you give it. The newsletter is sent through Brevo, which stores your subscription and records whether our emails are delivered and opened. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from future sends.

Comments and directory reports

When you comment on an article or submit a report to one of our vendor or reviewer directories, we collect the name, email address, and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser information for spam prevention. Your name and your comment or report are published; your email address is never shown. Spam checks run on our own server and are not shared with an outside service. If you have a Gravatar account, a scrambled (hashed) form of your email address is sent to Gravatar, run by Automattic, to display your profile picture.

Analytics

We count page views with Koko Analytics, which runs on our own server. It records which pages are visited and how often, does not track you across other websites, and does not send visitor data to any third party.

Push notifications

If you choose to allow browser notifications from the site, Brevo stores a browser token so it can deliver them. You can turn them off at any time in your browser settings.

Embedded content and fonts

Some articles include videos from YouTube and other sites, and the site loads fonts from Google. These services receive your IP address when the content loads and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

Contributor accounts and email

Writers and editors with site accounts have their logins and site activity, including IP addresses, logged for security. If you email us, we keep the message and your contact details to reply and for our records.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not run third-party advertising. We share personal information only with the service providers named above, who handle it to run the site for us, or when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Published comments and directory reports are kept as part of the public record of the site. Security logs are kept only as long as needed to keep the site secure.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Depending on where you live, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, and California, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor requests that apply to you. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, and the site will still work.

Our vendor and reviewer directories are a public record, and deletion requests are handled accordingly. Businesses and reviewers listed in a directory cannot opt out of or be removed from it, and reports are never removed for being negative; a listed business or reviewer can respond to any report instead. Reports are removed only if they are spam, abusive, or do not describe a real purchase or review. If you submitted a report, you can ask us to delete the email address and IP address stored with it; the published report stays on the record.

Children

Heat & Harvest is a business publication and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
